Week 9 Reflection

Rhis week has been pretty normal and I haven’t done much stuff we wouldn’t usually do. A lot of other kids have been going to sport, shows and a few other things but I have justt been having a normal week.

My highlight was probably assembly since we did not have to do much and it was fun watching the band sing. Today we also get dodgeball Wich is always fun although winter sport is canceled again. In maths we have been learning division Wich is fun since I am pretty good at it and it is not that hard to learn. Since it is the last day of term today I am excited to get a break and be back and ready for next term.

It will be interesting to see what we are doing for inquiry next term and what sort of literacy work we will be working on. we are also going to be training and trialing for Koru Games Which is at the very end of next term.

Poem Complaining

Excuse me Miss I can’t do this today

Every word i’ve forgot how to say

I can’t write, ,my hand is broken

has been a day since I have spoken

My eyes are really sore

I hit my head on a door

I can’t remember any of the work

My brain explodes like a firework

The words don’t make sense

My hands are stuck tense

I can’t even read the text

What will leave next

Guys we have dodgeball

This will be in the hall

Oh my god, i can read

Finish this work I need

My hands are fine

I write a perfect line

I speak out loud

I finished and bowed

Thsi si the poem  I made about not wanting to do literacy. I used the rhyme patter, aabb ccdd so on. Before we did this we read two poems and learnt about the imagery, rhyme pattern, repetition and a few more things. after that we made our poems. Do you know how to write poetry?

Oxford Maths

This year we have started a new way of doing our maths that the National had added to our curriculum in maths work. We have been given a book for each student and it has all different types of maths. There is also a website which has all the tests we need to do.

The topics we have covered so far (Year 8) are whole numbers, decimals, factors and hcf, prime numbers and prime factorization, surveys, data sources and types and polygons and circles. My favourite was hcf and factors since I was very familiar with them and found it pretty easy. The hardest was shape since I am not very good with angles and I did not do very well on the test.

The way it works is that before we start a subject we have to do a pre test to see if we are any good at it. In the middle Mr Redomnd usually teaches us how to do the work and some strategies of figuring out answers. After we have done the subject we have a post test that makes sure that we understand the topic we have just covered. The tests usually consisted of 8 questions and did not have a time limit.

In my opinion, it is pretty good since the teacher can just tell you the page to go on and you can get straight into it. The tests are also a good idea since you can make sure you understand what you are learning. The only problem was that the book didn’t really tell how to do the work sometimes and your teacher would just have to.

Timeline

Today we have been learning about timelines. We were in a group with Sharon at the start to talk about them and then we had to make our own. I chose to take the idea of the layout and having pictures on my timeline Wich I saw on the ones we looked at in the morning.

Digital Landscape Art

Today we have been making landscape art on our chrome books with google draw and polyline. We used colour blocking to make the gradients and contrast. we also got taught to make the horizon line. I found it fun that we could choose almost anything to make our picture but it was pretty hard to make the wave. I chose the beach with someone surfing since it is something I love to do and is very fun. Have you ever done colour blocking?

Writing Focus

It was my last year as junior Motocross rider so I had to prove myself to get sponsors otherwise it would be a very hard road through the rest of my career or I might not even have a career. I was putting in as much work as possible knowing that it would be a tough competition since all the other kids were going to the exact same thing as me. The season started very soon and I had my first race on the weekend.

In this piece of writing I was focusing on the opening hook. I was trying to make it have somethings that you will only know if you read the story. I tried to use things like how the race was soon or that I can’t have a good career in motocross if I don’t do good to make the reader want to see what happens. I think that I did good. Next time I might try to leave it more open to the possibilities that could happen so the reader wants to read it more. If you have anything that woudl make it better please tell me.

Week 10 Reflection

This week has been very fun, we have had a lot of things that were very good and fun. My main highlight was canterburys for swimming Wich was my first time going there, I haven’t even been to zones before so it was a great thing to do for my last year at primary school even though. I did not place very good in my races it was still a great experience.

Today we had surfing in the morning but it wasn’t great, the waves were really big and it was full hightide Wich made the water hit the rocks at sumner and it was a bit dangerouse so we ended up going in earlier than usual, I still caught plenty of waves and had heeps of fun.

Today we are also going to get dodgeball so that just adds even more better things to the week, overall it has been a great week and I’m excited for our last week of the term next week. have you done any cool things this week?

Leader Ship

Last week for leader ship with Matt we played a game called robot dodgeball. In the game you have a robot, visualiser, controller and assistant. It showed us that you can be a leader for  lot of different things and help with them as well. Today we discuss about what things we like, what we want to try and how we want to help other people, we were talking about how everyone can be a leader for something and the leader isn’t always the person telling you what to do. Do you know what you are  leader at?
